Yahoo on Wednesday released its overhauled Yahoo Mail app for Android and iOS. While the updated Android app is already available via Google Play, the iOS app update is in the process of rolling out, as of filing this report.
The updated Yahoo Mail app for Android and iOS now comes with a panel that includes options for Mail, News and Today. The Mail panel will show the usual Yahoo Mail inbox, while the News panel will include a new personalised news stream. The Today panel appears inspired by Google Now, showing weather, news digest, stock quotes, and sports updates, among others.
With the updated Yahoo Mail for Android and iOS, users will be able to swipe left or right to quickly move between their Inbox, News, and Today, as opposed to tapping the relevant icon.
Yahoo claims that during its testing, users spent 50 percent increased time inside the Mail app, compared to the previous versions, thanks largely to the new engagement-driven features like News and Today.
Also included in the update is the smart search feature that was partially rolled out earlier. When you start typing a name, Yahoo Mail offers smart search suggestions - including both people and messages - to help you narrow down your search. The app filters your search results by messages, files or photos, and you can scroll through them to find what you're looking for.
As mentioned earlier, updated Yahoo Mail app for Android is now available for download from Google Play, with the iOS version rolling out soon.
