Facebook hits new milestone with one billion users on a single day

The biggest social networking platform Facebook has just gotten even bigger. Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook had one billion people logged on to the site on a single day, marking the first time in company history to reach this milestone.
According to a Facebook post by the CEO, “On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family.” He stated that the company uses average numbers but this instance was different!  “This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world,” he added.
Facebook has also released a special video to commemorate the milestone.
The CEO went to say how proud he was of their community and the progress which has been made. He states, “A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values.”
However, no information was provided from which source the new users came from but the company definitely had a reason to celebrate, along with the advertisers too. In the end, the young CEO thanked its users for being a part of his community and for everything they have done to help Facebook reach this milestone.
Facebook Co-Founder and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg is also the wealthiest individual under the age of 35, with a personal fortune of $41.6 billion (roughly Rs 2,72,667 crores). According to a previous report, Facebook aims to bring 4.5 billion users online with Internet.org.
In a blogpost released to mark the first year of the initiative, Facebook said it will open a portal allowing any mobile operator to offer the service under its Internet.org platform. Facebook currently partners with specific operators to launch the service in different countries.

Instagram finally allows users to shoot in landscape mode; Square mode also stays on

Instagram has added new layout options in addition to its signature square for pictures and videos in a bid to attract more advertisers and to stop users defecting to more flexible services such as Snapchat.
The move is the first major alteration to the photo-sharing, social media service since Facebook Inc bought it for $1 billion in 2012, and addresses the wishes of many of its 300 million users, who have been constrained by the square format.
“It boils down to giving advertisers and users more options,” said Debra Aho Williamson, a social media marketing and advertising analyst. “You want people to be able to see more of your ad. It’s something advertisers are definitely going to be interested in.”
One in five photos and videos posted on the service do not fit the square format, Instagram said in a blog post. “Friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you can’t capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end,” it said.
From Thursday, Instagram’s web-based service and its mobile apps running on Google Inc’s Android system and Apple Inc’s iOS will allow portrait and landscape formats, giving both users and paying advertisers more options.
The move should help Instagram in its battle with newer rivals such as Snapchat for users in the fast-moving messaging and media-sharing market.
At the same time, it should attract more advertising revenue for Instagram, which said in June it would open its platform to all advertisers by the end of the year, rather than just to select brands.
Instagram is expected to generate nearly $600 million in advertising revenue by the end of this year and $2.8 billion in 2017, according to projections from research firm eMarketer.
By comparison Facebook, the world’s most popular online social network, generated more than $12 billion in revenue in 2014. The growing service hit one billion users in a single day for the first time on Monday.
To promote the new formats on Thursday, Walt Disney Co released exclusive footage of its upcoming film, “Star Wars, The Force Awakens,” using the new landscape option.

Xiaomi’s upcoming independent chipset will be available in two variants: Report

Last month, it was reported that Xiaomi might be gearing up to start using its own mobile chipsets in its handset. Currently, the company’s smartphones are powered by either Qualcomm or MediaTek chipsets, except the Xiaomi Redmi 2A which sports the Leadcore chipset.
According to a report by MyDrivers, Xiaomi will release two different versions of its own chipset. The first one will be used for low-end devices such as the Redmi series while the second one, will be a high-end octa-core processor sporting chip which will be seen in their mid-range devices. However, it is being said that the company will still rely on Qualcomm processors for their high-end devices such as the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5.
In the past, Korean giant Samsung had also moved away from Qualcomm and started using its Exynos chipset. We have seen the flagship Samsung phones such as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+ sporting Exynos chipsets. Other manufacturers such as Apple and Huawei also power their own smartphones and do not depend on third party chipset manufacturers.
Xiaomi has also reportedly acquired the full range of ARM core licenses. According to a report, the company recently hired Qualcomm China Head Wang Xiang which should speed up the process too. As of now, Xiaomi has not announced anything officially regarding its mobile chipset venture

Google Now’s Staff Exodus Reveals Hurdles for New CEO Pichai

Google Hosts Its I/O Developers Conference

Incoming Google CEO Sundar Pichai at Google I/O in May.

MOBILE

On Thursday, Microsoft fired up an old rivalry. The Redmond giant released an update to its Bing search app that allows other apps to tap into its information architecture. See something in one mobile app — a nice location shot in Instagram, say — and, with a tap, you can summon information about that something via Bing.
Nothing earth-shattering. But Microsoft happened to put out the release on Android first, and did so right before Google is set to launch Now on Tap, a nearly identical feature.
Google teased the product with some fanfare in May, at its I/O developer conference, as a breakthrough iteration of Google Now, its personal assistant and one of the twin bedrocks for CEO Larry Page when he returned as executive in 2011.
What went unannounced was that most of the original team that built Now had departed, many of them just before I/O, according to multiple sources. Some had grown frustrated that the product, born within Android, was shuttered into search inside of Google, they said. And Sundar Pichai, Google’s SVP and incoming CEO, did not prioritize the product as much as Page.
The exits reveal the hiccups Google has incubating new products that reach across multiple units of the tech giant. They also expose some key traits of Pichai’s leadership style — and some of the many hurdles he has ahead as he marshals Google’s core business.
Now launched at I/O in 2012 with Android Jelly Bean. It began, not many months before, as a side experiment within the Maps team. Engineers had rigged a way to scrape personal data on the phone — from calendars, email, location history — and feed the relevant bits to users via notifications, starting with transit data. “Initially, we wanted to do something that had no clicks,” said one early engineer.
Now escalated inside Google quickly, largely because it had the backing of Page. The product comports to his vision of a future with more intelligent, seamless computing. For several months after its launch, Page emphasized its importance to Google’s future. “He would open up every single all-hands [meeting] with Google Now,” said another former Googler who worked on the product.
Then, Page started to step away. He began holding regular, lengthy leadership meetings meant to spur out-there initiatives and moonshots, floating ideas like another research lab, code-named “Google Y,” according to multiple sources. He was laying the foundation for what would become Alphabet.
Meanwhile, Google’s core business, search, continues to lose steam with a key metric, cost-per-click, falling as mobile app usage skyrocketed. At some point last year Amit Singhal, the SVP who heads search, requested that Now move from Android into his division, multiple sources said.
Several engineers objected. According to multiple sources, their initial vision of Now — as a mobile assistant tailored to particular users — works best living on the mobile operating system, not within search.
Also, Google is a political place and search is Congress. Big, necessary, stodgy.
Pichai approved Singhal’s request. In part, perhaps, because Google must balance products like Now, which push information to users, with its central business problem: It makes less money from mobile searches. Google has started to deploy Now as a primary vehicle for indexing apps.
And the company remains bullish on the product’s prospects. “We’re seeing strong usage and very positive feedback,” a Google spokesperson said. “And we’re continuing to make Google Now work even better — continuing to add dozens of new cards, getting Now on Tap ready for release, improving our predictive technology, and iterating on the design and user experience.”
Another potential reason for the internal shift: Pichai is known as an executive who seeks consensus rather than conflict. A former Googler who worked on Now recalled Pichai’s response to their protests: “‘Look, I’ve got a lot on my plate. Chrome and Android are my top priorities. Google Now is not on that. I can’t fight that battle for you.’”
Now has its own battles in store. It has a solid user base, more than a hundred million monthly ones, according to multiple sources. (Google declined to comment on these numbers.) Yet it’s unclear how active those users are, and only a slim slice of them are on the iOS app.
Apple, for its part, looks prepared to launch a competitor to Now on Tap. With its proactive assistant and spotlight search, the Apple entry could elbow Google out. Several people said it was unusual for Google to pre-announce a feature like Now on Tap before it is ready. That hurriedness may have been to preempt Apple’s announcement the following month.
And now Bing, which powers search on Apple devices, has its own Now on Tap foil.
Microsoft has worked on the product for years and did not time its release around Google, said Ryan Gavin, general manager for Search, Cloud and Content. Still, Gavin did draw distinctions between the approaches, noting that Microsoft’s was far more favorable to app developers than Google.
“One’s a very open approach,” he said. “And the other is asking developers to register their app data with Google.”
Many developers are suspicious of Google’s mobile plans. Aparna Chennapragada, the product lead on Now starting this year, told Re/code last month that Now on Tap will solve app developers’ nagging issue with discovery. She’s well respected inside Google, but must roll out the product and get developers on board without much of the initial team.
Two of the engineers who created Now left the company in March; several others left around the same time. Only one of the founding team remains at Google, according to multiple sources. (Google, again, declined to comment on this.) For several, the experience of seeing their product steered in an unwanted direction was too dispiriting, they said.
“Google’s a big company,” said one person who departed. “This is how big companies work.”

iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus

iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus, Here is your resource for all new iPhones!

Finally yesterday Apple showed the new iPhone 6 to the world. iPhone 6 which is a successor to the last year’s released iPhone 5s was revealed yesterday by the company at a private event. Well, the story don’t ends here! Like last year, this time around Apple also released two different iPhone models but i guess they didn’t did something wrong this time with it like they did for the iPhone 5c. The other model which company launched is the all new and something different from the maker i.e.iPhone 6 Plus.
Well, it seems that Apple took long time to understand the need of large display on their smartphone. This time manufacturers decided to deliver a bigger iPhone for the audience who wants a premium smartphone experience with bigger displays. iPhone 6 Plus could be the game changer for iPhone’s competition to Note 4.
No matter what but Apple is the one brand manufacturer who will impress you with the release for one reason or the two! They didn’t just released the iPhone 6 Plus with bigger display but they also increased the display on iPhone 6 which is actually a great addition to it. iPhone ‘s display is now stretched to 4.7 inch which i consider is a all in one shape for majority of users.

We mentioned this earlier also that iPhone 6 has adopted the design statement of the iPad from Apple which makes a lot of things changed this year from the previous releases. People who liked that boxed shape of the iPhone were disappointed with the release and some did liked the design as well, I mean who the hell don’t like iPad’s design?  The new design and bigger size gave rise to the new power button placement for the device which is also a wise decision for bigger sized smartphones at present.
New fine lines to add extra premium look to the aluminium back of the iPhone 6  and iPhone 6 Plus are also detailed very neatly. However, some were really scared what if Apple placed a ‘Beats’ logo on the back of the device but with God’s grace this didn’t happened! Then why they purchased Beats Audio? for new iPad?
Apple-iPhone-6-vs-6-Plus-Size
The new iPhones are coming with the newly designed A8 chips for the devices. However, Apple claims that the chip will boost performance by 25% and graphics by 50% which is a great performance jump from the previous releases. Both iPhones will be shipping with full HD retina display with sRGB wide color gamut. Apple did made the display more appealing with the increase in size as well. Announced at Apple’s developer conference iOS 8 will be coming pre-installed and Apple also did announced that iOS 8 will be available for all customers from 17th September. iPhone 4s will also get the update.
iPhone 6 Plus also comes with landscape mode for homescreen and special controls for the functionality are also provided which makes full utilization of the bigger display of 5.5 inch with 1920*1080 pixels resolution at 401 ppi.
Apple-iPhone-6-Camera
If we jump to camera section then you won’t find much improvements there until we tell you. Apple kept the iSight camera on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to 8 MP with f/2.2 aperture and 1.5µ pixels with all new camera sensors. This will enhance your photography experience with more accurate and well distributed colors. New camera lens and improvements along with iOS 8 makes taking pictures event more faster.
Primary shooter has also got phase detection which will make taking pictures with more people and face detection more faster. HDR mode is also improved with the camera. Optical Image Stabilization is also a powerful and improved feature which Apple added to the camera segment of the device. Slo mo video at  120 fps or 240 fps is also there. Time laps videos and burst fire mode with 10 pictures in a second is also added to improve the camera experience of the device.

Focus Pixel Technology of which everyone is talking about is a intelligent addition to the camera from Apple. This feature is mostly seen in DSLR standard camera lenses. With this feature camera becomes so intelligent that it can detect the focus point itself and will move the zoom lens accordingly to give you perfect shorts at high quality pixels. Apple has done a good job in improving the camera.

A List of Database Management Systems

This is a list of all the database management systems that I have been able to identify. If you know of any others, then please email them to me!The systems are listed by type: relational(R), extended-relational(X), object-relational(OR), object-oriented(OO), network(N) and hierarchical(H). Note that some vendors state that their DBMS is more than one of these. In such a case the DBMS type is specified by more than one designation. For example, Centura Software states that their Velocis database is based on both the relational and network models, and in this case the designation "RN" has been specified.
For the primary market, some liberties have been taken with regard to the use of the term "Enterprise." Specifically, if a vendor does not indicate a primary market for their DBMS, then the primary market has been specified as "Enterprise."
