First-ever Q&A from outer space is going on right now on Facebook

First-ever Q&A from outer space is going on right now on Facebook

Facebook’s live Q&A sessions have been immensely popular with celebrities as it gives their fans a chance to get up close and personal with them. In the past, Facebook and Twitter have served as Q&A platforms for well-known personalities such as Hillary Clinton, Andy Murray and hip-hop artist Eminem to interact with their followers.

The latest public figure to hit Facebook’s Q&A block is European astronaut Alexander Gerst. It’s a huge deal for Facebook at it will be Facebook’s first ever live Q&A with anyone from the outer space.

Alexander Gerst will take 20 minutes to answer questions in a live video stream from the International Space Station (ISS) on his Facebook page. The live Q&a will take place at 6:25 PM IST today. However, the live stream will depend on the satellite connection and might be slightly delayed. After the video signal has ended, Alexander will do a 30-minute Q&A where he’ll respond to questions from fans on his Facebook page.

As part of the ‘SocialSpace’ event series a number of these Facebook fans will be able to get a glimpse of the everyday life of the astronaut at the European Astronaut Center (EAC) in Cologne. For the grand finale of the day they will be able to pose their questions live from the EAC to Alexander Gerst.

Facebook has made its Q&A feature available to any account with over 10,000 followers. To start a Q&A, users would just need to announce that they will be answering all questions by their followers similar to a regular status update. During the Q&A, the organiser (in this case Alexander Gerst) would reply to all the comments he receives.
