Nokia earlier this week started rolling out the Nokia X Software Platform v2.1.0.11 for the X2 Dual SIM (RM-1013) smartphone users over-the-air. The smartphone was launched in June running the Nokia X Platform v2.0, based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
The announcement of the update was made by a company employee by the username 'armagon', on the official Nokia Discussions forum page, saying, "Today we have started rolling out a new software update for the Nokia X2 Dual SIM (RM-1013) owners. This is a major/global release, bringing the phone software version to Nokia X Software Platform 2.1 (2.1.0.11), and will be available via OTA (Over-The-Air)."
Nokia X2 Dual SIM device owners can check for updates by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates and tapping Check Now.
The highlight of the Nokia X Software Platform v2.1.0.11 is the support for Google-based services, namely Google Contacts sync and access to user's Gmail inbox. Notably, these features were missing from the previous Nokia X Software Platform v1.2 update for Nokia X, Nokia X+, and Nokia XL handsets.
With the update, Nokia X2 Dual SIM users have also received a camera app update allowing them to make use of a new Smart Mode to capture objects that are in motion. Other new features include Action shot, Best shot, or Motion Blur, which are already present in several Lumia-branded handsets.
The '194MB' Nokia X Software Platform v2.1.0.11 update also features Microsoft`s OneDrive and OneNote sync. As a part of the update, the Nokia X2 Dual SIM users would now be able to store files up to 15GB on OneDrive, while having a sync feature of up to 500 notes on Onenote.
The update introduces Here Maps for Nokia X2 Dual SIM users. Also included are turn-by-turn voice guidance and free global navigation license. However, users would need to update their Here Maps app to the latest version via Nokia Store to be able to access the global navigation feature.
The Nokia Store app has also been redesigned to help users find content easily, and the company says the store now also has better integration with 3rd-party stores.
Other changes that come with the Nokia X Software Platform v2.1.0.11 are local calendar support, call reject with a message, parental controls for Store, landscape support for mail and messaging, auto-configuration of mail accounts, live wallpapers, and new lock screen widgets.
Nokia has not yet mentioned the list of other devices which will receive the Nokia X Software Platform v2.1.0.11 update.
